RUSALKA is part of the June 2015 Rusalka Menagerie, now back in 7/2021 as part of the MYTHOS series!

While not technically a mermaid, the Rusalka is a water nymph- a female spirit in Slavic mythology. Her name vernacularly translates as "mermaid" from Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian, although she is not described as being part fish. The original "rusalka" was an appellation used by Pagan Slavic tribes, who linked them with fertility and did not consider rusalki evil before the nineteenth century. They came out of the water in the spring to transfer life-giving moisture to the fields and thus helped nurture the crop. In nineteenth century versions, the rusalka is an unquiet being who is no longer alive, associated with the unclean spirit and is dangerous. (source: Wikipedia)

The Rusalka's hair is most often of radiant blond or goldish brown, though in some versions of the myth, she has green hair. It is long (sometimes, twice her own size) and perpetually wet, believing that drying the rusalka's hair would cause her to die. Rusalka's eyes are usually water blue, but sometimes are depicted green, with emerald shine to them. Sometimes a rusalka would yield a hair comb which would prevent her hair from drying out, and accounts exist describing the comb as a powerful item allowing the rusalka to walk on land and conjure water out of thin air, when needed.

I've combined my love of mythology with my love of classical music in that the Rusalka is the topic of an opera by Antonin Dvorak, who is one of my favorite composers. The color names and cast of characters in the Rusalka Menagerie will reflect this influence.

Color Description:  A vivid teal blue with a strong metallic gold shift and gold to green color traveling iridescence. Shown swatched over NYX cream eyeshadow base in skintone in the bottom swatch, and over NYX Black Bean pencil in the top right swatch, photographed under a daylight lamp. Vegan.

This formula is "semi loose" and features added ingredients for adhesion and wear, which also intensify the color shifts and make it easier to wear and blend over both bare skin and a variety of primers. Your eyeshadow will not arrive in "little balls" like some semi-loose formulas do, but it may be more difficult to get through the sifter holes. Sifters are easily removed. As always, I recommend a regular cream base such as NYX cream eyeshadow base. Your mileage may vary with sticky glue type primers.

Contains: mica, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide, carnauba wax, ferric ferrocyanide, tin oxide, silica, bronze powder, tin dioxide, magnesium stearate, zinc stearate, blue 1, isododecane, capric/caprylic triglyceride, dimethicone, hydrogenated polyisobutene
